The International Centre for Training and Research on Cultural Heritage in Danger, the Department of Education, Culture, and Heritage of the Ministry of National Defense, and the UNESCO Chair for ICH in Public and Global Governance at the University of Warsaw—along with partners including the National Institute of Heritage, the National Institute of Museums, the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój, and the Polish Committee of the Blue Shield—are organizing a scientific conference combined with a workshop titled “Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Military.” This groundbreaking event will take place on September 5-6, 2024, in Wrocław, at the International Centre, Pretficza Street 24. Conference Objectives:
This conference aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, analyses, and discussions on the various aspects of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, both generally and specifically within civil-military cooperation, military operations, and military activities. The discussions will explore methods and strategies for armed forces to respect the intangible heritage of diverse communities, groups, and individuals. The event also seeks to raise awareness of the significance of intangible cultural heritage and promote mutual appreciation of this heritage. Additionally, it will address the role of the Polish Armed Forces in this vital area.

The Head of our UNESCO Chair team, Prof. Hanna Schreiber, will deliver an introductory lecture titled “From El Condor Pasa to Ukrainian Borscht: The Genealogy of Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage and Its Significance for Civil-Military Cooperation.”
