The Chair of European Union Law and Institutions at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies (University of Warsaw), in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair on Intangible Cultural Heritage in Public and Global Governance, is participating in the international project InThrace, aimed at fostering integration and improved management of intangible heritage in the context of European integration. The project, funded by the European Union under the KA220-HED programme, brings together universities and institutions from Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, and Poland, and seeks to develop modern models for interpreting and safeguarding cultural heritage.

In the face of globalization and urbanization, many elements of Europe’s intangible heritage—such as oral traditions, craftsmanship, and rituals—require dedicated care. Through InThrace, we engage universities, students, and local communities in initiatives designed to preserve and promote this heritage.

The project’s objectives include:

  • Strengthening academic knowledge on the interpretation and management of intangible heritage.
  • Promoting cultural awareness and European identity through civic engagement.
  • Developing innovative educational tools for integrating heritage into tourism, spatial planning, and community life.
  • Enhancing cooperation between universities and local authorities to design new heritage protection strategies.

As part of the project, a guideline handbook, an e-learning platform, and a digital library will be created to support the safeguarding of intangible heritage. The work will be carried out by an international team through meetings, workshops, and conferences across various European countries. The project runs until June 2026.
